2013 The Irish Gathering

In May next year Wicklow County Council will be hosting a Family History Festival aimed at homecoming Irish diaspora and will include History, Genealogy and CRAIC ( banquet in Wicklow Gaol )
Speakers will include
 Dr Emmet O'Byrne, Joan Kavanagh,
Val Byrne, Jim Rees and Aideen Ireland, more details later.

Linda Byrne Heads For The London Olympics Next

Congratulations from Clan O'Byrne  to Linda Byrne from Dundrum who won The Dublin Flora Women's mini marathon  today. Ireland's Olympic marathon hope, won the mini marathon in a time of 33 minutes 29 seconds. Next stop for Linda is London 2012.  Wishing her every success.

    Killpedder, a History

28th March 2012     ' Killpedder,  a history  of its people'  a talk by Helen Ledgwidge. Hosted by The Downs and District Historical Society.

She qualified  HDip from UCD and is a well experienced geneologist.

The DUBLINERS
Barney McKenna died today, may he rest in peace.
I grew up in Dublin and remember well meeting the fledging Dubliners in the early 1960's, in the Widow Donahues Bar where they first started.
 I was then an Architectural student and frequented the back bar of the Widows. Lost contact but on my way to Libya  in  the 70's I met Barney in a hotel in London and he brought me the Royal Albert Hall to see De Danann, he was known by everyone, even our London taxi driver.
Ushered in like royalty, after another scoop, we
ended up on the stage beside De Danann for the concert in front of 3,500 people.
So I did appear on the stage in  the Royal Albert !
