FTDNA are carrying out a review of our Lineage 1 member’s Haplogroups. In the process they have caused a bit of confusion on some members sites. Some sites have no Y-DNA Haplogroup displayed on their home pages. Displaying “ Get Yours “ where the usual HG should be. Others have what appear to be incorrect Haplogroups displayed and have an advertisement for the SNP pack associated with it. Anyone thinking of ordering a product please hold off until I let you know FTDNA have got their act together.

2013 Byrne DNA Project Update
On the ground in LeinsterNic Burns, Co. Administrator is now in Ireland for 3 months researching and testing for new DNA possibilities.
Nic will be giving a workshop at the Clan O'Byrne rally in Woodenbridge on the 5th Oct. Latest. 12th Oct 2013 Nic's workshop was one of the best attended lectures / workshops of the rally ! Nic has tested more than 40 Byrnes since he arrived, so now we are at nearly 100 Byrne's in the Leinster area. This will give a better understanding of the Byrne genealogy in this previously unresearched area. But more is needed to specifically define the family origins of the Byrne's of Leinster. |

Byrne DNA Project Background

This project was started January 15, 2005 by Paul Burns of Tallahassee, Florida who is the Administrator of the Byrne DNA Project.
Paul has a deep interest in the family origins of the Byrnes, he visits Ireland every year in search of the holy grail !
His interest comes from his desire to trace his own family roots and this has led him to embrace state of the art technology by using DNA tests to trace ancestry back to distant pasts. His determination to succeed has resulted in finding many related Byrnes and other cousins along with linking them to each other going back to the 1200s. To date some 200 participants have been tested and it is hoped to increase this dramatically in 2012. With the help of his DNA Co Administrator , Nic Burns of Michigan and Clan O'Byrne they will visit Ireland with a particular target for testing the South Leinster area to increase our database of Byrnes in this area. Hopefully this will throw up more links and unearth new roots for the Clan.
